Arguably the Best French-style Whites in the Western Hemisphere—New York’s Finger Lakes AVA Series
This May I toured the wineries surrounding Lake Seneca in upstate New York’s serene and picturesque Fingers Lakes wine region. Aside from tasting an impressive array red varietal interpretations (Merlot, Syrah and others), I was completely blown away by the character and quality of the Alsatian varietals like Pinot Gris, Riesling and Gewürztraminer in particular.
In this multi-part series, I’ll review my favorites after a long weekend of tasting and just being astounded at these Finger Lakes AVA French-style whites that not only resemble some of their finest Alsatian counterparts, but also display a character of their own.
